Pick a Book, Get a Podcast Rec By Alice Gelber Pick a Podcast, Get a Book RecLook, we’re book people here, right? But sometimes you can’t be reading. Like, while you’re cooking or doing laundry or walking down the street. That’s what podcasts are for! So, choose a book and I’ll give you a fabulous podcast rec.My Favorite MurderThis banter-y podcast will have you obsessed…with murder! True Crime nerds Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark tell each other real murder and crime stories submitted by friends and fans.Supernatural with Ashley FlowersWith episodes broken down under categories like “haunted” and “mystical,” this spooky podcast will have you hiding your head under your blanket. But isn’t that what makes it so fun?Off Menu Podcast with Ed Gamble and James AcasterOkay this one is a stretch, but also not a stretch. Because there’s a lot that goes down in the Kingdom of the Wicked series, it’s easy to forget that Emilia is a little foodie. Which gives me the opportunity to recommend my favorite food centered podcast hosted by two hilarious and adorable British comedians.Films to Be Buried With with Brett GoldsteinAnother stretch-but-not-a-stretch situation over here. Films to Be Buried With is literally about death — and people’s favorite films. One of the main characters in Belladonna is Death! I see no stretch here! By the way, the host is Brett Goldstein (aka Roy Kent from Ted Lasso). You Must Remember ThisThis is my favorite Old Hollywood podcast, and it has one spooky theme song! Some episodes are whimsical and fun, and some are dark. Very dark. But the fun thing is you can listen in any order because most of the older episodes focus on a single story. (The newer seasons follow a single theme or storyline, which is also fun).Cult Podcast + The Manson Season of You Must Remember ThisCult Podcast says it all, right? But I would also recommend the season of you Must Remember This that focuses on the Manson Murders. It’s astonishing and addictive and just really good. This American LifeSophia Glock’s life sounds like an episode of This American Life. So, if you want more true, hard-to-believe, completely whacky stories, Ira Glass is your guy.Keep It!Keep It! host, Louis Virtel, would probably describe Hopepunk as “rad,” because that’s how he describes things. This entertaining podcast dives deep into pop culture, films, and, of course, music.Choose a book!
